Excellent Teaching and Learning in Engineering Science – Elli 2

Duration: 2016 until 2020 Consortium: 3 Universities

Sponsor: Federal Ministry of Education and Research (FMER)

Elli 2

The collaborative project of the RWTH Aachen University, Ruhr-University Bochum and TU Dortmund University develops innovative teaching and learning concepts for academic training, taking into account “Industry 4.0”. Within the framework of the "Remote Labs and Virtual Learning Worlds" theme, a tele-operative test cell is to be built in order to be able to carry out cyclic material tests automatically. The first process step of sample production will be realized by additive manufacturing.

The project was developed with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (Materials Test Engineering, Mechanics, Machining Technology, Forming Technology and Lightweight Construction, Polymer Technology) and the Center for Higher Education. The project combines the concept of MOOCs (Massive Open Online Course) with the technology of remote labs, where experiments can be carried out via Internet. Content of the "open" online course is the one-dimensional tensile test at a tele-operative testing cell as an interdisciplinary scientific experiment.
